Community Feeding Programme — ALNOOR ISLAMIC CENTER

Serving warm meals to those in need across Ivorypark, Tembisa and Winnie Mandella — five days a week.

At ALNOOR ISLAMIC CENTER we believe that caring for one another is an essential part of our faith and community life. For many years our volunteers and supporters have run a regular feeding programme that reaches families, elders and individuals who need a helping hand. Every week — Monday to Friday — we prepare and distribute hot, nutritious meals to communities across Ivorypark, Tembisa and Winnie Mandella. Each day our team serves over 200 people, ensuring consistent support for those who rely on these meals.

Schedule

Meals are prepared and distributed five days a week: Monday to Friday. We do not run distributions on weekends, allowing our volunteers time to rest and families to observe weekend routines.

Reach

Our programme focuses on neighbourhoods most in need, with regular stops in Ivorypark, Tembisa, and Winnie Mandella. Each distribution feeds 200+ people, including children, families and elderly residents.

The meals are provided with care and dignity. Our volunteers prepare balanced portions that include a warm main, bread or rice, and a nutritious side where possible. Where resources allow, we also distribute extra provisions for families to take home so they can eat together later in the day. We work hard to ensure food safety, clean preparation, and respectful distribution practices.

What you see at the serving tables is more than food — it is human connection. Volunteers take time to speak with recipients, check on families, and identify those who may need additional help. Local schools, community groups and donors sometimes join us, bringing fresh produce, extra hands and encouragement. The programme builds relationships as much as it feeds stomachs.

Stories from the Field

There is a grandmother who arrives every week with a small container — she says the meal lets her buy medicine for the month. There is a young mother who has come to rely on the programme while she looks for stable work. There are children who look forward to seeing the volunteers and tasting a warm meal during school holidays. Each story reminds us why the work matters and why consistency — feeding five days a week — makes a real difference.

How You Can Help

  • Volunteer: Help with cooking, packaging or distribution. Volunteers also assist with logistics and record-keeping.
  • Donate food or supplies: Staples like rice, beans, cooking oil, canned goods and bread are always needed.
  • Financial gifts: Monetary donations allow us to buy fresh produce and keep the programme running reliably each weekday.
  • Spread the word: Tell neighbours, local shops or community groups who may want to support or partner with us.

We welcome organisations and individuals to partner with us. If you represent a shop, supplier or community group and would like to sponsor a day or contribute regularly, your support will directly help feed 200+ people each distribution.
