ALNOOR ISLAMIC CENTER brings hope and dignity by distributing food hampers, clothing, meat, and other essentials to families in need across Ivorypark, Tembisa, and Winnie Mandella.
Beyond daily prayers and education, ALNOOR ISLAMIC CENTER stands as a pillar of care and compassion in the community. Our commitment to social welfare is rooted in the principle that no neighbour should go hungry, cold, or unsupported. To achieve this, we have developed structured programmes that provide families with the basic essentials of life: food hampers, clothing, fresh meat, and household necessities.
Food Hampers
Each month, volunteers at ALNOOR prepare and distribute food hampers packed with staple items such as maize meal, rice, cooking oil, beans, lentils, sugar, and tea. Where possible, fresh produce and eggs are added to ensure balanced nutrition. These hampers are designed to feed a family for several weeks, giving them stability during difficult times.
Clothing Distribution
Clothing is more than fabric — it provides dignity, warmth, and protection. At ALNOOR, we regularly collect and distribute gently used clothing for men, women, and children. Seasonal drives in winter focus on jackets, blankets, and shoes to help vulnerable families face the cold months with comfort.
Many donations come from within the community itself, reflecting the beautiful spirit of generosity. Parents encourage their children to give items they have outgrown, teaching them the value of sharing and caring for others.
Meat & Qurbani Distribution
During special occasions such as Eid al-Adha, ALNOOR coordinates the distribution of fresh meat to households that cannot afford it. This initiative ensures that families can share in the blessings of the festival and enjoy nourishing meals. Even outside of Eid, when donors contribute, we facilitate meat distribution so that protein — often the most expensive part of a diet — reaches those in need.
Household & Emergency Relief
In times of crisis, such as fire, flooding, or sudden displacement, ALNOOR mobilises quickly to provide emergency relief packages. These may include mattresses, cooking utensils, hygiene kits, and baby care supplies. By responding promptly, we help families rebuild with dignity and stability.
Stories of Hope
One elderly widow in Winnie Mandella expressed that the monthly food hamper allows her to use her pension to buy medication rather than food. A single mother in Tembisa shared that receiving clothing for her children before winter saved her from choosing between warmth and school fees. Each story is a reminder that small acts of generosity multiply into lasting impact.
